I have never seen this kind of photography effect before. It almost looks computer animated. Did you use HDR (High Dynamic Range)?
I appreciate the story it tells and the dramatic effect of the photograph.
The white out in the palm caused by the flash seems to distract from the subject though. I would try to use natural light or a more diffused light source such as a soft box to reduce the glare.
